Sketches of Lake Biwa and the Uji River

Museum No.
AK346

The handscroll begins with a sunrise near Hamaōtsu and features among others the scenery of Mt. Mikami on the opposite shore of Lake Biwa and Zeze Castle. It is thought that the then 38 year old painter made the “sketches from life,” meaning he created them on-site rather than in his studio.
