This is perhaps the most famous type of karakuri doll. It could once carry an actual cup of tea to a guest, its head bobbing as it walked along. After the guest had drunk the tea and replaced the empty cup, the doll would turn around and carry it away. When this doll was wound up, hidden wheels under its robes would begin to move.
