A harukoma is a hobby horse with a papier-mâché head on a bamboo pole with wheels at the end. In the past, these were used in New Year’s dance performances, much like lion dances. In this tableau, a harukoma dancer is accompanied by Daikoku, God of Wealth, on the shamisen as well as by a taiko drummer.
