This mirror, made in Korea during the Koryo period (918-1392), is modeled on a Japanese five-lobed mirror decorated with auspicious flowers and mandarin ducks. Four designs for five-lobed mirrors made in Korea have been found, one without mandarin ducks. Because mirrors with identical designs exist in large numbers for each design type, we know that Korean mirrors were produced by using the same mold repeatedly. On the other hand, there are no Japanese mirrors with identical designs, since different molds were formed to make different mirrors.
