This mirror is decorated with peonies and vines. Eight-lobed mirrors with the same design have been found in large numbers. Some with inscriptions indicating that they were made by monks from Xijing, others with artisan names engraved in the Juchen writing system. Like them, this work was also probably made in northeast China during the Jin dynasty (1115-1234). Similar examples from the Koryo period (918-1392), however, have also been found on the Korean Peninsula, and so it is difficult to say whether mirrors such as this were made in China or in Korea.
