This plain mirror features a raised inner zone. There are many examples of plain Chinese mirrors from the Song dynasty (960-1279), but eight-lobed mirrors like this one are unknown in China and are unique to the Koryo dynasty (918-1392) of the Korean Peninsula. They have occasionally been excavated as auxiliary burial objects, particularly from graves of this period and may have been manufactured in large quantity for use in funeral ceremonies.
