Landscapes count among the oldest of Yōtoku-in’s extant sliding door paintings. According to temple records, Sōkei, a painter-in-attendance to the bakufu, executed four panels (Wild Geese and Reeds) in the mode of Muqi and six paper sliding doors in the mode of Xia Gui. The four panels on display are thought come from the set in the Xia Gui mode.
