According to the 1745 (Enkyô 2) edition of Kyôhabutae Taizen (a Kyoto geographical journal), mirror makers with the title Uemura Kawachi-no-kami lived at Oshikôji Fuyamachi Nishiiru in Kyoto, and the 1765 (Meiwa 5) edition says they lived at Nijô Takakura. Among these mirror makers, Yoshinaga, who is known for a mirror made in 1777 (An'ei 6) with his inscription, is believed to have been active in the latter half of the 18th century. This mirror is of the size typically found among hand mirrors made in the mid-17th century. It is believed that during the mid-Edo period, classic-style hand mirrors such as this were produced along with larger mirrors.
