This calligraphy was done by Dong Qichang (1555-1636) based on the Chinese poem, Du Huai (E., Crossing the Huai River), written by Wu Yuanheng (758-815). A Chinese quatrain with seven-character lines is written in cursive style on a small yet elegant piece of paper. Though slightly too elegant, the handwriting style brings a distinctive atmosphere to the work.
