This textile is decorated with techniques used before the development of surface dyeing. It comes from the Inaba Clan, whose first head was the son of Lady Kasuga (1579–1643), wet nurse to Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu. An inscription on its paper wrapper tells us that Lady Kasuga received the original kosode from the Imperial Court.
