This kind of uchikake was worn unbelted on formal occasions by the elite wives and daughters of daimyo lords. The hemline is heavily padded with silk wadding to trail smoothly behind the wearer. These would be made in white, black, and red. Red robes were usually decorated with tie-dyeing (shibori) and embroidery.
