This mirror is decorated with a pair of phoenixes and running animals in diagonal lines, scattered with vines. A similar example with vines and flying birds dated 714 (Kaiyuan 2) has been found in the tomb of Yang Jianchen in Xianyang, Shanxi Province, but this work is slightly more recent. Sen'oku Hakukokan, also known as the Sumitomo Collection, also houses a mirror that resembles in the depiction of vines, but is decorated only with phoenixes, and not running animals.
