The prominent painter and calligrapher Wang Duo (1592-1652), who came from Mengjin, also went by his various sobriquets, Juesi, Shiji, and Shiqiao. His knowledge of calligraphic styles was extremely prolific. He was known particularly for his expertise in the styles of the illustrious Two Wangs, Wang Xizhi (303-361) and his son, Wang Xianzhi (344-388).
This hanging scroll of a poem by Wang Xianzhi provides us with insight on Wang Duo's ardent study of calligraphy, illustrating his diligence in the lifelong practice of emulating the work of the Two Wangs.
