Jiang Chenying (1628-99) was born in Cixi, Zhejiang Province. He used the sobriquet, Ximing, and the style names, Zhanyuan and Weijian, and was known as one of the "Three Robes" [together with the literati Zhu Yizun (1629-1709) and Yan Shensun (n.d.)] from the Jiangnan region. This poem on the amusements of spring, in four stanzas of seven characters each, was composed in 1688 (Kangxi 27), when Jiang Chenying was sixty-one. It is brushed in a casual yet elegant style.
