This work includes many small sketches of ancient Chinese and Japanese paintings. Among others, it features a drawing of the Eight Views of the Xiao and Xiang by Sesson (dates unknown), and a landscape painting by Ōoka Shunboku (1680-1763). This tells much about Bunchō’s approach towards painting and the importance he placed on learning from old masters.
