Sketches of Antique Art and Scenery by Tani Bunchō

Museum No.
AK1626

Bunchō was commissioned to investigate the cultural assets throughout Japan to create an inventory known as Shūko jisshu. The sketches here stem from his visit to Kamakura where he carefully recorded not only the art objects from temple and shrine collections, but also the scenery he encountered. They represent clean copies of the drawings done on-site.
