Ni Yuanlu was a high official of the Ming. This album contains an excerpt from the Liang dynasty masterwork of literary aesthetics, The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons, pasted onto twelve album leaves. The title slip on the cover was written by the erudite modern Japanese Sinologist Naitō Konan (1866–1934).
