Each individual composition on this screen depicts a famous story about an ancient Zen master. The second panel from right shows Bodhidharma, the First Zen Patriarch, meditating against a cave wall, his robe pulled over his head. This is an early work of the master artist Kaihō Yūshō (1533–1615), known for his distinctive brushwork.
