Zhang Xin of Hangzhou is one of four great Qing artists to come to Japan; he arrived in 1786. Upon returning to China, he became known for birds-and-flowers in ink and colored pigments. The brushwork in these brilliant screens imitates Yun Shouping (Nantian, 1633–1690). The twelve paintings were re-arranged by season before being pasted onto screen panels in Japan.
