This painting skillfully combines dry and moist brushstrokes to depict auspicious imagery: bamboo (vitality and longevity), Taihu rocks (reliability and longevity), fungi (immortality) and the evergreen sacred lily (Rohdea japonica; Ch: wannianqing, lit., “ten-thousand-year green”). This is an early work by Zhang Xin (Zhang Kun), who came to Japan from Qing in 1786.
