This Chinese poem in seven-character lines extols the scenery of Japan’s largest inland lake. Zheng Xiaoxu (1860–1938) was a statesman of the late Qing (1644–1912) who eventually became the first prime minister of Manchukuo (Manchuria). He wrote this after a lakeside banquet. Can you tell that he had been drinking?
