Zheng Xiaoxu (1860-1938) was a native of Min County in the province of Fujian, China. He served during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) as the Consulate General in Osaka, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and President of Jing-Hang Nanduan Railway. He also worked as provincial official for Guangdong and Hunan, and prime minister of Manzhou. Well known for his mastery of calligraphy and poetry, he was counted a representative member of the literati of the time. Produced for presentation to Master Shiqing, this work well demonstrates his powerful yet elegant brushstrokes.
