Overview

Stone Lanterns

Museum No.
AK1339

This pair of screens makes skillful use of a distinctive pointillist technique, giving a sense of three-dimensionality and texture to the unusual subject matter of stone lanterns along a stone fence. Some scholars believe that the screens show a view from Mt. Inari in Kyoto, where Itō Jakuchū lived during the later years of his life.
