Square Plates with Stone Wall Design in Overglaze Enamels

Museum No.
GK526

This set of five square dishes by the Kyoto potter Ogata Kenzan features colorful icicle patterns based on Chinese Qing dynasty designs. The signature of the artist is found on the reverse side of one of the dishes executed in underglaze blue. It suggests that the set was made shortly after opening his kiln at Narutaki.
