Yano Kyôson (1890-1965), born in Ehime Prefecture, studied under the southern-style painter Nagamatsu Shunyô (1849-1931). Together with Naoki Sanjûgo (1891-1934), he established the research institute Shuchôsha in 1919 (Taishô 8), the objective of which was to study literature and the arts. He also established the Osaka Art School in 1924 (Taishô 13). Hashimura was a central figure at the Japan Nanga Institute.
