Long Sword (Tachi)
Inscription: “Made by Yoshiie”
Yoshiie, the son or grandson of Munechika, is known
for slim, classically elegant blades such as this, with its
smallish point and its small irregular (ko-midare) hamon
with small cloves (ko-chōji), and thick, subtle nie (visible
martensite crystals) in the steel. It was an heirloom of
the Shimazu lords of Satsuma, who received it from
the sixth Tokugawa shogun.
