This dark brown mirror has a backside covered in black lacquer and a reflective face plated with tin. The knob surround consists of pistils spread out around the knob like flower petals, but here the tips of the pistils have merged to become a string of jewels. The thick rim has high, straight sides. Four roundels enclose branches of bush clover (J., hagi) bending to the left; butterflies and birds occupy the spaces between them. One roundel of bush clovers contains a spider web, while the one opposite to it includes pampas grass (J., susuki), adding variation to the composition and presenting an archaizing tendency in roundel-patterned mirrors. The delicate depiction of the bush clovers closely resembles that of Mirror with Autumn Grasses, Butterflies, and Birds (EK17-46), generally suggesting a production date in the latter half of the Kamakura period (1185-1333).
