Kishi Renzan (1804-1859) studied under Kishi Ryô (also known as Ganryô, 1798-1852), the son-in-law of Ganku (1756-1838). Later, Renzan was adopted by Ganryô and took the Kishi name. The Kishi-style brushwork was softened under Renzan, whose gentle touch is expressed this painting of the Shûgakuin Imperial Villa in northeastern Kyoto.
