At the age of seventy-one, Sesshû (1420-1506) gave his disciple, Shûgetsu (d. 1529), a portrait of himself. Although the original is no longer extant, many copies of this work were producted. This portrait of the master artist was copied by Kanô Tan’yû (1602-74) in Kanbun 2 (1662).
