This exquisite scroll with birds and animals accompanied by flowers of the four seasons was done by two artists steeped in painting traditions of Kyoto’s Maruyama-Shijō school, which emphasized sketching from life. The wild boar is surrounded by bush clover, dayflowers, and other blossoms of autumn.
