This small earthen bowl made in the Fukubachi (deep bowl) style from the Early Jomon period, is one of the Ento-Kaso (cylinder with a bottom, excavated from the lower layer) wares. This style of pottery was produced in today's Aomori, Iwate, and Akita prefectures. Four handles with oval openings are attached around the rim of the mouth, which are the accents of this style. The bowl's diameter is largest around the middle part of the body. The bottom is flat, and on its back a carved line can be seen along the bottom contour line. Around the mouth and the upper part of the body, raised belts with notches are between the straw rope patterns.
