Kara-ori Noh Costume is mainly worn by female characters on stage. Usually gold and silver are used in the background pattern of these costumes, over which flowering plants of the seasons are gorgeously woven with colorful patterning wefts. This piece is no exception, and plenty of gold threads are used. The design of stone pavement in an uncommon composition is woven in the background, over which large cherry blossoms are arranged. When the design of Kara-ori includes red, it is called “Iro-iro” (with a color) and is worn by younger characters. Many gold threads indicate that the character who wore this costume played a significant role in the performance.
