This impressive set of emperor and empress dolls were likely produced in the early 1700s. The type is named after the Kyōho era (1716–1736), when large, lavish dolls such as this were in fashion. The emperor figure here is over 50 cm high. Other known examples are up to 70 cm in height. Ōuchi means “Imperial Palace.”
