In this kimono, stems of chrysanthemums rise from the hem to the shoulders and the characters of a congratulatory poem widely known as Kimi ga yo (“His Majesty’s Reign”) are scattered over the upper part of the back. The flower is a symbol of longevity, and also used for the imperial crest, thus a well-fitting motif to the poem.
