The Kyoyaki potteries with Iro-e design made at kilns other than the Ninsei and Kenzan kilns are classified as Ko-kiyomizu Porcelain of the late Edo Period. This tray is modeled after a turnery-made wooden takatsuki tray and was finished in an elegant style. The rim of the plate at the top is shaped like a flower. The thickness of the part supporting the plate gradually decreases from bottom to top. In order to maintain this delicate shape, support must have been used during baking in the kiln. The designs of pine trees, bamboo, and blooming plums cover the surface of the plate, together with a considerable amount of gold pigment. The stand part is decorated with an Arabesque pattern and Shippo and Takarazukushi designs. It is a typical example of Kyoyaki potteries in the shasho style (potteries modeled after non-pottery objects).
