Punch'ong ware" is an abbreviated term for "powdered gray-blue stoneware" and refers to gray-blue glazed ceramic wares that have been covered with white slip. In Japan, this ware is usually called Mishima. On this jar, the white slip, which was applied with a brush, has been scraped away in places to create the lotus pond design.
