The large Tamba jar with a slender body was formed by building up ropes of clay and making the walls compact and smooth by beating and rubbing. The curving slope form the neck toward the shoulder is beautifully gentle. The neck is straight, and the roundish, outward-turning lip shows the transitional features from the flaring to the rounded rim. The dark-green natural ash glaze over the reddish brown ground is characteristic of Tamba-wares. The jar, a product of the late Muromachi Period, has a scenic glazing effect.
