This piece is a copy of a shouldered-type Shigaraki ware tea container that was produced from 16th–17th c. Kiyomizu Rokubei had his studio in the Gojōzaka area of Kyoto, near Kiyomizu temple. The seal that would serve as the studio mark, was bestowed upon him by the tonsured prince Myōhōin no Miya Masahito (?–1805).
