Lanting xu (E., Preface to the Orchard Pavilion) written by Wang Xizhi (307-65) of the Eastern Jin dynasty (317-420) was buried with Emperor Taizong (598-649, r. 626-649) of the Tang dynasty (618-907) in the emperor's tomb known as Zhaoling. Its rinmohon ("calligraphy copied from a model"), however, exists in large numbers today. This Yuquan edition of Lanting xu is part of one hundred editions of Lanting xu owned by You Si, who was the prime minister during the Chunyou (1241-52) era of the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279). The postscript reveals that You Si acquired this work from the monk Faxian Yuandao of Yuquan-si Temple. It was formerly in the collection of the calligrapher Weng Fanggang (1733-1818) of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
