This is a Chinese quatrain with seven-character lines composed by Arai Hakuseki (1657-1725) for the sôkohôshi, a ceremony commemorating the birth of a boy. Unfortunately, the name of the boy remains unknown. Hakuseki served the government as an attendant Confucianist (J., jukan) and was known for his mastery of calligraphy. The signature "Kinmi" employs his given name.
