The Womb Sutra (Ch., Foshuo baotai jing; J., Bussetsu hotaikyô), translated by Dharmaraksa (230-?-316) during the Western Jin dynasty (265-316), explains in detail the physical transformation of human beings (from conception until death) as well as the conditions of impermanence and suffering. This manuscript appears to have been dedicated by the family of the Minister of the Left, Junior First Rank, Fujiwara Tsugutada, at the time of his first memorial service on the sixteenth day of the seventh month of Enryaku 15 (796). This is a rare and invaluable example of dated copied sutras from the Heian period (794-1185). Approximately the first two pages of this text are missing.
