Wang Wenzhi (1730-1802) was born in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. He is also known by his sobriquet, Yuqing, and his style names, Menlou and Fangxia Zhai. This poem, celebrating the master literatus Su Shih (also known as Dongcheng, 1036-1101), was composed in 1768 (Qianlong 33). Wang Wenzhi was returning from Dianzhong (Yunnan Province), when he stopped to visit Huangzhou, home of Su Shih.
