In 1314 (Shôwa 3), the emperor Fushimi (1265-1317, r. 1287-98) copied 30 verses on the Buddhist concept of Consciousness-only (J., yuishiki) over a period of more than 200 days and dedicated it to Kasuga Shrine. This calligraphy mounted as a hanging scroll is thought to be a part of the original manuscript. It provides sound historical evidence for Fushimi's deep faith. In 1473 (Bunmei 5), Ichijô Kaneyoshi (Kanera; 1402-1481) revealed the sovereign's signature at the end of the document.
