This manuscript belongs to a set of the Large Sutra on Perfect Wisdom (J., Daihannyaharamittakyô, more commonly known as Daihannyakyô; Skt., Mahaprajnaparamita sutra). Six hundred volumes were dedicated to the Tamukeyama Hachiman Shrine, formerly the tutelary shrine of Tôdai-ji Temple in Nara. This set is also known as the Tôdaiji Hachimangû sutra, because of the black ink seal, "Tôdaiji Hachimangû", stamped on the back of the paper. The obverse of the paper is dark blue in color with gold foil and silver dust sprinkled on its surface, while the reverse has silver foil applied to a white ground. The end of the volume is dated the tenth day of the fifth month of 1227 (Karoku 3) with a postscript indicating that a scholar-monk of the Sanron ("Three Treatise") School, Jôshin (n.d.), copied this set at the age of sixty-one.
