This water jar imitates Chinese ceramics from the Zhangzhou kilns (Fujian province) so well that it could be taken as such. The style was popular in China at the end of the Ming dynasty (1368–1644). This particular piece, however, is by the famous Japanese master potter Okuda Eisen (1753–1811).
