Rimmed Basin with Birds and Flowers

This cloisonné basin with birds, flowers, and dragons, surrounded by miniature spirals and scrolls, is of a type produced in the Ming dynasty for export to East Asia. Some basins made their way to Japan, where they were often used to hold sweets for the tea ceremony. There are around ten known examples remaining in Japanese collections today.
