This work is of great interest because it is the only painting of the Bird and Flower genre by the Soga-school painter that has come to light. So far only three extant works of Kojima Ryōsen were known representing landscape and portraiture. It is thought that the artist was a disciple of Soga Shōsen (dates unknown).
