These containers, which hold powdered green tea used in the tea ceremony, are made from paper coated with lacquer, a technique called ikkanbari. Even their pouches are made from paper instead of silk. They bear the cipher of the famous daimyo lord and tea master Matsudaira Fumai (1751–1818).
