This may look like a stack of seven Japanese books, but in fact it is a box for holding writing utensils. The white label on the top volume bears the title Eiga monogatari (A Tale of Flowering Fortunes), a Heian period literary work relating the life of aristocratic ruler Fujiwara no Michinaga (966–1028).
