Hoshi, Volume 10 of Myohorengekyo (Lotus Sutra)

Museum No.
BK82

Normally the Lotus Sutra is transcribed in columns of a standard seventeen characters. Unusually, this manuscript of the sutra’s tenth chapter averages only twelve characters per column. The bold, vigorous characters suggest this sutra was copied by a Buddhist scribe of the Nara period (710–794).
